Content of the OIP programme

1. Pre-departure Workshop on:

  • Understanding purposes of the overseas immersion program
  • Background on host destination
  • Understanding cultural differences, traditional attitudes and value orientations
  • Building intercultural skill set and language adaptation strategies
  • Developing a learning contract for the programme
  • Defining learning goals, focus areas and measurements of success
  • Drafting a personalized learning plan with cultural or business focus

2. Immersion in Overseas Country

  • On-site orientation
  • Geography, economic, cultural and political environment
  • Sharing/networking with local students

3. Industry Visits

  • Understanding business terminology/behaviours/negotiation patterns
  • Visits to industry and/or regional trade associations/government economic agencies
  • Networking and interaction with local and Singapore business communities in the country

4. Cultural Visits

  • Visits to historical and cultural sites
  • Exploring traditional works/artists and contemporary literature/art
5. Post-Trip Workshop and Presentation
  • Discussion on personal learning experiences in the country and success of learning plan
  • Analysis of critical incidents and exploration of solutions
  • Self-assessment on values and behaviors and tolerance for ambiguity
  • Individual Presentations, either cultural or industry focus
  • Discussion on how to best utilize the learning experience
