Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Introduction
In the current era, China is an important country in the world with its strong growth in economy, and the revival of the rich Chinese culture. It is one country that Singaporean should partner with in the progress of our economy. This programme allows participants to complete some of their academic requirements (1 IS module, 1 core module) during their immersion stay in China. This will give them more time in pursuing enhancement modules during the subsequent semester. Besides studying, this programme also includes activities that promote interaction with the local students, study trips to industry, as well as visiting to cultural and historical sites. With a longer period of stay in China, students will have a more in-depth appreciation of Chinese culture and understanding of the business and industrial environment in China, and more importantly, help to build cross-cultural interaction skills.

Objectives
The objectives of the programme could be summarized as follow:
  • To learn disciplinary or broadening modules in a different cultural setting;
  • To gain an insight into industry of China, cultural and business operations;
  • To interact with students and staff of foreign tertiary institutions, so as to learn the skills of cross-cultural interaction;
  • To immerse in and experience the Chinese culture and economic landscape.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this programme, students will be able to

  • understand the political, economic and cultural issues in China, which are essential knowledge to be acquired for future business ventures, working or studying in China;
  • develop a view of globalization and ability to handle cross-cultural challenges, which are essential for students who are inspired to pursue an overseas career/business in future;

Deliveries:
The expected deliveries upon completion of this programme are:

  1. A blog site containing individual daily reflection.
  2. A summary in Ms-Word format of the lessons attended in TUT relating to the understanding of the political, economic and cultural issues in China, which are essential knowledge to be acquired for future business ventures, working or studying in China.
  3. Required IS documentations: Individual Learning Plan(Pre-trip); ....
  4. A 3 minute group video clips on overall TJ trip.
  5. To pass the APPG module :-) .
